Kepler Track
-
Hello everybody ! New article about another track !!!!!!!
-
At the beginning of our trip, we did the first part of the Kepler Track, a one-day walk. It was awesome, so we decided to do it entirely.
-
The Kepler Track is a 60-km track, so about a 3-4 day loop track taking you from the gentle, beach-forested shores of lakes Te Anau and Manapouri to the tussocky alpine tops and grand Mt Luxmore. Your reward for the hill climb is a long bushline section with marvellous panoramic views of the Kepler Mountains on one side, and lakes, rivers and hanging valleys on the other.
-
For this trek, we bought a cheap tent for two people, cheap sleeping pads and sleeping bags. We slept with this stuff almost every night of our trekking month and honestly, I slept pretty well.
-
So, we did the track on 3 days with 15 kilos in our backpacks. On the first day, we woke up to Broad Bay Campsite and slept near the Te Anau Lake. We walked to the summit of the mountain and then slept at Iris Burn Hut again in our tent but under the rain this time, which made it more difficult. On the second day, we went to Moturau Hut through the bush and this time, we slept in the hut - it was more comfortable than our wet little mats. And on the last day, we walked to the car park.
-
Finally, the first day was the best one because when you get to more than 1,000 meters of altitude, you immediately discover incredible views, while walking in the bush can quickly become repetitive.

Enjoy the photos ! See you soon
